Schedule: Mondays 8:45 - 12:00, Tuesdays 8:45 - 15:00, Fridays 8:45 - 12:00
Salary: £9,500 per annum

Early Years Foundation Stage

Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major im- pact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important. Good parenting and high-quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.”



Overarching principles

There are four guiding principles that should shape practice in Stay & Play sessions at Besson Street Community Garden.


These are:

1. every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

2. children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

3. children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.

4. children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.


The Role

You will lead on the day-to-day delivery of Under 5s and Families Stay and Play sessions at Besson Street Community Garden, using the amazing garden setting as part of our unique offer to under-fives and families. You will be doing this on behalf of Besson Street Trust. Our overall aim is to provide and promote a positive child-centred learning environment which reflects the Early Years Foundation Stage.


Qualifications & Experience
  • Level 3 childcare qualification eg. CACHE, BTec Dip

  • Some experience in early years settings


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Deliver a safe, caring and stimulating environment for 0-5-year-olds and their families/carers.

  • Deliver provision of a consistently high quality.

  • Promote partnership working between practioners and parents/carers positively encouraging parental/carer involvement in the activities provided each session and to promote the benefits family learning outside the under 5s stay and play setting.

  • Share the lead on planning activities and provision working closely with stay and play staff and the centre manager.

  • Use as central feature the amazing and unique garden setting as part of the daily delivery of stay and play sessions.

  • Share the lead on singing, movement and Storytime.

  • Be part of the setting up and clearing away each day. • Raise orders for materials, equipment and resources.

  • Signpost parents and carers to services that support families. • Participate in training events and other activities with a view to achieving and maintaining high professional standards in line with recognised good childcare practice.

  • Ensure that the policies and procedures Besson Street Trust are followed including (but not limited to) Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

  • Always maintain the appropriate level of confidentiality regarding all the children, their families and other staff in relation to all policies and good practice. • Provide a service which values and respects different cultures, ethnic backgrounds and household structures of the families and children taking part in the sessions.

  • Refer promptly any safeguarding matters, problems, complaints or issues to your line manager or a senior member of Staff that arise which could affect:

a) the care or safety of the Children taking part; of the staff, volunteers, and other adults on site.

b) the continued willingness by Parents & Carers to use Besson Street Trust Stay & Play sessions.

c) anything that might affect its ability to continue to operate in a successful and sustainable manner.

  • Administer first aid as required and record accidents and incidents in record books.

  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post and grade.
