In our occasional series of local restaurant and cafe reviews, we sent our reporter to check out the local Hungarian restaurant, The Rosemary, 178 New Cross Road. I jumped at the change of this assignment following hot on the heels of the Evening Standard’s enticing review of hungarian wines. And I have to say, overall I wasn’t disappointed. If you are prepared to open your mind, take yourself out of the Gastro-pub, cafe-bookshop, trendy cosmopolitan eatery mentality, then you’ll be relaxed enough to thoroughly enjoy this delightful experience. Rustic is the best word to sum up the interior design, rough wood, simple prints and the lush greenery of the plants which can be purchased along with a whole range of organic comestibles, teas, beans, nuts, rice, pastas, and chocolate in addition to traditional earthenware pots and candles. I chose Vorosboros marhapporkolt galuskaval (beef stew in red wine with home-made dumplings. there is a wide range of dishes t suit all dietary requirements, including the grilled tufo with roasted vegetables that comes specially recommended. The food is simple, wholesome, organic Hungarian food, and if you are that was included, you can wash it down with some superb Hungarian wines. If you get the chance, take it, you won’t be disappointed. http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/foodanddrink/why-well-all-be-drinking-hungarian-wines-this-year-a3602321.html.
